Unlock your independence and gain the freedom to travel with ease. At Driving 101, we understand that everyone learns differently, which is why we specialise in teaching clients with Autism, ADHD or Learning Difficulties.

With our inclusive and supportive learning environment, you can feel comfortable and confident as you embark on your journey behind the wheel.

Liz is our amazingly calm and experienced instructor (unless the All Blacks are losing)! She will structure each lesson to cater to your unique needs, moving at your own pace. And, if you need it, we encourage support people to hop on board.

AND … we won’t just teach you how to drive and leave you to figure out the rest.

Driving 101 will work with you in your private lessons as long as required, until you feel comfortable and we’re certain that you’re ready.

At Driving 101, we will run through simulations of common driving scenarios, breaking them down into smaller steps to reduce frustration. If there are particular routes that you’d like to drive, we practice this over and over to build skills and confidence. All without playing AC/DC really loudly in the background!

No matter what you think your barriers are, we will break them down (calmly) and laugh (quietly!)

Information for Learners

You can do it!

You will get things wrong and that’s ok.

We can help you get it right.

We use visual aids to help explain things.

The car is a safe space.

We do what we can to make sure you’re not overwhelmed.

You’ll learn how to deal with people on the road who aren’t as good at the rules as you.

We can do focus training with you.

You might learn best by repeating things – that’s fine.

We can practice as many times as you need.

We will do lesson times to suit you, not us.

We can have a break. If you get stressed out, we can stop and grab a coffee or an ice cream. (No more than 2 ice creams in a row!)

We know that learning to drive is a significant milestone in life. This journey may come with unique challenges and considerations. At Driving 101, we provide support, guidance, and resources to help learners and their families navigate the process of learning to drive successfully.

Safety is of the utmost importance when learning to drive. We advocate for open communication with healthcare professionals, driving instructors and family members to ensure a comprehensive understanding of individual strengths and challenges.

Liz has trained to work with clients who have comprehensive learning needs. She doesn’t wear loads of perfume or flood the car with air-freshener.

She knows how to use visual aids to help learning, and the learner’s needs are put first, ahead of hers. Best of all, she has so much patience. (Except for when the AB’s are losing!)

Just adding to this following passing my test. I felt totally relaxed going into the full license driving test knowing the simple 'task checklist' of actions, from Liz, had me set. I was sitting my full license for work and this was after 20 years of driving on my restricted. It was so worth the confidence boost of a guided lesson with Liz to shake the fear of being tested on something that I know I can do but definitely needed polishing.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. There was only so much we as parents could teach our daughter in regards to driving, and we had hit a road block.  Our daughter requires a modified vehicle to drive, so going through a standard driver instructor was challenging as we thought the lessons needed to be in the instructor's car.   But then we found Liz.

Liz is able to give our daughter lessons in a modified vehicle.  Liz is understanding – she takes the time to understand our daughter's unique needs and looks for ways to work through them.  She is honest – she tells us the areas that need to be worked on, however provides great coaching on how to work on them.

Our daughter is learning so much from Liz now, and she is becoming more confident in her driving, which is a big relief to us as parents!   We know she is in safe hands with Liz!

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Liz is amazing. I am already a fully licensed driver but reached out for a lesson using a left foot accelerator, as I have just had one put in my car due to a right foot injury.

I didn’t expect it to be as difficult as it was to get my head and foot around but Liz was super patient and encouraging, even when I would accidentally hit the accelerator or brake too hard. She gave me tips for making it easier and after only about an hour with her I was feeling confident enough to drive my own car with my left foot.

Through our chats during the lesson I found out about the incredible work Liz does with people who are physically disabled or have learning difficulties. She genuinely cares about people and helping them gain transportation independence through driving. She even fit me in on her day off because I reached out at short notice.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Liz to anyone looking for a driving instructor either as a learner driver or if like me you need to learn to use modifications in your vehicle.
