We are the only driving school in the Lower North Island that is equipped with modifications and expertise to assist physically challenged people to have lessons or regain independence.

Driving 101 can provide driving solutions for all sorts of odd bods. Our vehicles have an option for a left foot accelerator and Sure Grip – featherlite hand controls. We’ve got stuff for really really short people and We’ve gone all out to make sure we’ve got most of the gadgets to make driving easier for you.

If you have a physical disability, we not only offer driver training, but can also suggest possible adaptations to overcome physical problems with vehicle control. We can also hook you up with Occupational Therapists who specialize in driving. Yes … we know people!

We have worked with clients recovering from stroke, amputees, people with cerebral palsy and many other conditions. So if we can help you regain your independence, let’s talk. Whatever the challenge, we’ll find a solution.

Meet Beryl from the Hutt – our Poster Lady!

Beryl has a degenerative condition that means she will eventually lose most of her leg function. Beryl successfully applied for funding to have hand controls into her vehicle so she can continue to drive.

She provides support to new refugees within her community and is part of a valuable support network. Keeping her independence means a lot to Beryl so she can make a worthwhile contribution to her local community.

Part of Beryl’s funding allowed for Driving Lessons to learn how to use her new controls and ensure on road safety and confidence, and we were stoked to be a part of her success!

Chris is a real winner!

Chris was keen to learn and he booked in for 1-2 lessons per week for over a year. He stuck at it, and gained his restricted Licence in Dec 2019.

He can now apply for Funding to have his own vehicle fitted with personalised controls and seating.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. There was only so much we as parents could teach our daughter in regards to driving, and we had hit a road block.  Our daughter requires a modified vehicle to drive, so going through a standard driver instructor was challenging as we thought the lessons needed to be in the instructor's car.   But then we found Liz. Liz is able to give our daughter lessons in a modified vehicle.  Liz is understanding – she takes the time to understand our daughter's unique needs and looks for ways to work through them.  She is honest – she tells us the areas that need to be worked on, however provides great coaching on how to work on them. Our daughter is learning so much from Liz now, and she is becoming more confident in her driving, which is a big relief to us as parents!   We know she is in safe hands with Liz!

I am already a fully licensed driver but reached out for a lesson using a left foot accelerator, as I have just had one put in my car due to a right foot injury. I didn’t expect it to be as difficult as it was to get my head and foot around but Liz was super patient and encouraging, even when I would accidentally hit the accelerator or brake too hard. She gave me tips for making it easier and after only about an hour with her I was feeling confident enough to drive my own car with my left foot. Through our chats during the lesson I found out about the incredible work Liz does with people who are physically disabled or have learning difficulties. She genuinely cares about people and helping them gain transportation independence through driving. She even fit me in on her day off because I reached out at short notice. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Liz to anyone looking for a driving instructor either as a learner driver or if like me you need to learn to use modifications in your vehicle.
